The pre-ride check that catches 80% of breakdowns

Most roadside breakdowns trace back to one of five things, and all five can be checked in under two minutes without tools.

Tyres — pressure and visible wear. Controls — clutch, brake, throttle all move freely. Lights — every bulb, both signals. Oil — level visible in the sight glass. Chain — slack within spec, visibly lubricated.

Say it as "T-CLOC" if that helps it stick. Do this before every ride over 50 km, not just long tours — a slow chain-slack creep is exactly the kind of thing that only shows up when you're already on the highway.
