SAFE RIDING IS THE MOTTO

How your safety score works

Every trip MotoRoadies records gets a score from 0 to 100. It's built from how the ride actually felt through your phone's motion sensors — not where you went or how fast overall.

Every ride starts at 100

A perfectly smooth trip stays at 100. Points come off only when the app detects riding that raises risk. Nothing you do can push a trip above 100 — the score is about keeping it there.

Four things take points off

Hard braking

Sharp, late stops. Costs the most when it's frequent or severe — the sign of following too close or reading the road late.

Hard acceleration

Snapping the throttle open. Occasional is fine; a habit of it shows up in your score.

Hard cornering

Carrying too much speed into a turn. Measured by how hard the bike leans and loads, not by lean angle alone.

Over the limit

Sustained riding above the road's speed limit. Brief overtakes aren't the target — holding well over the limit is.

The deduction grows with both how often an event happens and how severe it is. A single firm stop barely registers; a pattern of them is what moves the number.

Scored against how you ride, not how far

Deductions are measured against the distance you covered, so the score reflects your riding style rather than your odometer. A calm 300 km tour and a calm 5 km commute can both score 100. It also means a rough moment weighs more on a short hop than on a long, otherwise-smooth ride.

Trips under about half a kilometre aren't scored — there isn't enough riding in them to judge.

What the bands mean

SAFE80–100

Smooth, anticipatory riding. This is the band the Top Roadies board is drawn from.

FAIR60–79

Mostly steady, with rough patches. Small changes — earlier braking, gentler throttle — move you up fast.

NEEDS WORK0–59

Frequent hard events. Not shown on the public board, but still ranked in-app so you can watch it climb.

Your safe-score is a rolling average

Your profile score is the average of your trip scores over the last 90 days — a rolling window, so recent riding counts and an old rough patch fades. It's also what ranks you on the Top 100 Safe Roadies board (MotoRoadies Pro riders with 7 trips or 100 km in the window, scoring 60 or above).

It's an estimate, not a verdict

Event detection runs on phone sensors and can be wrong — a pothole can read like a hard brake, a phone loose in a tank bag can add noise. Treat the score as feedback on a trend, not a judgement of a single ride. Always ride lawfully and attentively; never touch the app while riding.
